Barabba

Treason, democracy and alienation

Reflections on the criminal Biblical character saved by the crowd at the expense of an innocent man, trigger questions about treason, democracy and alienation. Will people give up their most innate beliefs for money, for the commercial, most marketed and glimmering option? Are people alienated with glimmering promises and/or money?

The man saved by the crowd at the expense of an innocent man. People with the money in their hands claimed his release at the top of their voices. Will people always choose Barabbas as the commercial, most marketed and glimmering choice? Does it just take a good financial or glimmering pay back to convince the crowd? As pronounced by Marco Castoldi, “If you let the people decide, the people will always choose Barabbas.”

Barabba is a rejection to the shouts “away with this man, and release to us Barabbas” Lk23;18. A self-reflective and social question raising issues about the rape of values that make up one’s self and the social self.
